Choosing the right lock
FAQs
How do I know which Vault smart lock fits my door?
Start by identifying your door type (hinged, sliding, glass, or gate) and measuring the thickness of the door and latch spacing. Uploading clear photos of your door (front, back, and edge) through our form helps our team recommend the best compatible lock for you.
What’s the difference between a mortice and a tubular latch?
A mortice lock fits inside a pocket cut into the edge of the door - typically used for front or heavy-duty doors. A tubular latch is simpler and more common for internal or light-use doors. Choosing the right one ensures a smooth and secure installation.
Why do I need to upload photos of my door?
Every door is different. Uploading photos lets our experts check your existing setup, latch size, and handle spacing to make sure you order a lock that fits perfectly. It prevents mistakes, avoids returns, and ensures your smart lock installs cleanly the first time.
What kind of photos should I upload?
We recommend three clear photos taken in good lighting:
- The front of your door (showing the handle and keyhole)
- The back of your door (inside view)
- The edge of the door (showing thickness and latch position)
This information helps us assess compatibility and recommend the right model.
What happens if I buy a lock without sending photos first?
If you don’t upload photos, we can’t guarantee compatibility. Since every door setup is unique, purchasing without confirmation means you assume responsibility if the lock doesn’t fit. We strongly recommend using our free photo check service before buying.
What if I choose the wrong lock?
If your lock doesn’t fit because photos weren’t provided for review, Vault cannot take responsibility for incorrect compatibility. However, our team can help identify a suitable alternative and guide you through the exchange process if needed.
Can Vault smart locks be installed on fire-rated doors?
No. Vault smart locks cannot be installed on fire-rated apartment entry doors. For these doors, we recommend the Vault Arena or Vault Pulse access control systems paired with a fire-rated electric striker.
Can I install a Vault lock myself?
Yes, many Vault locks are designed for DIY installation with basic tools. Each product includes an installation template and guide. For guaranteed satisfaction we recommend using a professional locksmith or installer.
What should I consider before buying a smart lock?
Check your door’s material, thickness, and latch type. Decide whether you want features like fingerprint access, facial recognition, or Wi-Fi control. Sending photos to our team ensures your chosen model is both compatible and functional.
Can I get help choosing the right lock before I order?
Absolutely. Our team can review your door photos and recommend the best model for your home or business — free of charge. It’s the easiest way to ensure a perfect fit and smooth installation.
